## Key takeaways

- MobileSheets is a one-time $15.99 purchase per platform (Android, Apple or Windows) with no subscription, and each platform is bought separately.
- MobileSheets Trial on Android and MobileSheetsLite on iPhone and iPad are free with no stated time limit but cap the library at 8 songs; Windows has a 14-day trial through the Microsoft Store.
- MobileSheets has run natively on iPad since December 2022 and on iPhone since December 2023; on Mac it runs only as the iPad app on Apple Silicon.
- Connect Tablets lets one leader device load songs and turn pages on followers across Android, Windows and Apple devices, any number over Wi-Fi or up to seven over Bluetooth.
- MobileSheets has no account or web app: libraries sync by a manual merge through a cloud folder or device to device, and the free Companion app manages a library from a computer.

MobileSheets is the reader we recommend first on Android tablets and Windows 2-in-1s, and the most serious alternative to forScore on iPad. It costs $15.99 once per platform, runs offline without an account, and handles page turns, setlists and MIDI as deeply as any app we compare.

It is our pick among [sheet music apps for Android](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-android/) and [for Windows](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-windows/), and it sits a tenth of a point behind Newzik in our [overall ranking](/best-sheet-music-apps/). That gap comes from our [methodology](/how-we-rank/) weighting ensemble sharing and smart notation, where MobileSheets does less; on reading, library and value it scores higher than Newzik.

## What is MobileSheets?

MobileSheets is a one-time-purchase reader for PDFs, images, text, ChordPro and ABC files, made by Zubersoft, the company of developer Michael Zuber in Portland, Oregon. It runs natively on Android, Windows, iPad and iPhone.

It started on Android in December 2011, reached Windows in December 2016, iPad in December 2022 and iPhone in December 2023 (the Android app was called MobileSheetsPro from 2015 to 2022). Zuber answers the support forum himself and said in July 2026 that a second developer had joined. Updates are frequent: 16 iOS releases between October 2025 and September 2026.

There is no account. Your library lives on the device and works offline, and the App Store privacy label says the developer collects no data.

## Who is MobileSheets for?

MobileSheets fits players on Android tablets or Windows 2-in-1s, bands whose members mix Android, Windows and Apple devices, keyboard players who control their instruments over MIDI, and anyone with a very large library who wants to pay once.

It is a weaker fit if you want automatic account-based sync, MusicXML or notation playback, a built-in sheet music store, librarian tools for an orchestra or choir, or an interface that follows iPadOS conventions. Worship and cover bands that live in chord charts should also read our [worship team ranking](/best/sheet-music-apps-for-worship-teams/).

## How good is MobileSheets for reading and page turning?

MobileSheets covers every page-turn method we track, as forScore does, and its linked-tablet mode works across Android, Windows and Apple devices at once.

Display modes include single page, two pages side by side, vertical scrolling and a dedicated Half Page mode that shows the top of the next page while you play the bottom of the current one. You can crop, rotate and set a custom page order for repeats, and link points jump between D.S. and D.C. sections.

Pedals can be Bluetooth or USB, including 2- and 4-switch models from AirTurn, PageFlip, Coda Music and Donner, with up to six switches each mapped to an action; our [pedal guide](/guides/best-page-turner-pedals/) covers the hardware. Face gestures such as an open mouth or a smile turn pages on every platform except the native Windows ARM64 build. Autoscroll and metronome turns after a set number of measures add more hands-free options, though there is no listening-based page turning.

Connect Tablets is the band feature. One leader device loads songs and setlists and turns pages on any number of followers over Wi-Fi, or up to seven over Bluetooth. Followers need the songs in their own library, matched by title or another field you choose, so each player can load their own version. Book mode pairs two tablets as one two-page display, and since March 2026 annotations sync between connected tablets. Our [forScore vs MobileSheets](/compare/forscore-vs-mobilesheets/) comparison weighs this against forScore's Cue.

## How does annotation work in MobileSheets?

MobileSheets gives you a complete marking kit: pen, highlighter, text, shapes, arrows, crescendo and piano-staff tools, plus hundreds of stamps and your own custom ones. Layers and stylus pressure are supported, and annotations can be embedded in an exported PDF for musicians who don't use the app.

Apple Pencil squeeze actions arrived in version 3.9.45 (September 2026), and the developer's roadmap puts an annotation editor update (version 3.10.0) first. For techniques that work in any app, see our [annotation guide](/guides/annotate-sheet-music/).

## How good is MobileSheets for large libraries and setlists?

The library is MobileSheets' strongest area. Zubersoft says it handles libraries of 50,000 songs and more without slowing down, though startup takes longer as the library grows.

Each song carries 20+ metadata fields, and since 3.9.18 you can keep several libraries with separate storage. CSV index files split a large songbook into individual songs, which makes fake books usable. Setlists and collections have their own editor and a "next song" indicator on stage.

### What is MobileSheets Companion?

MobileSheets Companion is a free desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux that manages a tablet's library from a computer over Wi-Fi. It is not a score viewer: you still read from the tablet.

### How does MobileSheets sync between devices?

Manually. There is no account or background sync: you merge libraries through a shared cloud folder (Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Nextcloud on Android and iOS, iCloud on Apple devices) or device to device over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, with many options for what to merge. Some reviewers report duplicates, deletions or cloud sync failing, so keep regular backups. Sync is not available in the free trials.

## How does MobileSheets handle sharing and ensembles?

MobileSheets is built for bands that play together on stage more than for orchestras that distribute parts. Its tools are linked tablets and file sharing, with no accounts or roles.

You share songs or setlists through the system share menu as .msf packages, which carry a complete copy of each song and its library data, or as lightweight .mss setlists that match songs the recipient already has. PDFs export with annotations for musicians on other apps, and library sync between members can be limited to the fields you choose.

There are no organization accounts, part-distribution workflow or librarian roles, and per-player song versions are on the roadmap after 3.10.0. If you need to push parts and shared markings to a section, our [Newzik vs MobileSheets](/compare/newzik-vs-mobilesheets/) comparison explains the difference.

## Does MobileSheets do ChordPro, MusicXML or playback?

MobileSheets is strong on chord charts and ABC notation but offers no interactive notation. It transposes ChordPro, text and ABC files, but not PDFs, and it does not open MusicXML or play back scores.

ChordPro support is extensive: many directives, chord diagrams, grids, fonts and colors, transposition with capo, and embedded ABC sections. ABC files render and, since 3.9.18, transpose in the app. That makes MobileSheets a workable single library for a band reading both notation and chord charts; [SongbookPro](/reviews/songbookpro/) and [OnSong](/reviews/onsong/) are the chord-chart specialists.

There is no MusicXML import (the developer says it would require the app to render notation itself), no OMR, and no playback of PDFs, images or ChordPro files. Audio tracks attach to each score with A-B looping, tempo and pitch change, and the metronome has count-in and visual-only modes.

MIDI is where keyboard players gain most: program change, control change and SysEx over USB and Bluetooth (plus Wi-Fi on iOS), MIDI-triggered actions, tempo sync, and linking with KORG Pa-series arrangers and Yamaha Genos and SX keyboards. There is no built-in tuner, recorder or video playback. For transposing PDFs, see our [transposition guide](/guides/transpose-sheet-music/).

## Is MobileSheets free, and what does it cost?

MobileSheets is not free, but its free trials have no time limit. The full app is a one-time $15.99 per platform as of October 2026, with no subscription and no in-app purchases.

On Google Play, $15.99 installs on all your own Android devices. On the App Store, the same price buys the universal iPhone and iPad app, with Family Sharing for up to six family members. On the Microsoft Store, the purchase installs on up to ten Windows devices signed in to the same Microsoft account. Zubersoft's FastSpring store sells $15.99 per-device licenses (plus sales tax where applicable) for Android and Windows, and is the only place to buy the e-ink edition for BOOX tablets.

The free versions are MobileSheets Trial on Android and MobileSheetsLite on iPhone and iPad. Both cap the library at 8 songs with 2 link points and 2 bookmarks per song, disable library sync and limit Connect Tablets (to 90 seconds on iOS). Windows has a 14-day Microsoft Store trial instead.

There is no in-app upgrade. Buy the paid app, then bring your songs across with a backup (.msb) or an .msf export from the trial.

The cost to plan for is that each platform is a separate purchase. A player with an Android tablet and an iPad pays $15.99 twice, still less than one year of Newzik Premium. Major updates such as 3.9 have been free to existing buyers.

## Does MobileSheets work on iPad, Windows and Mac?

MobileSheets runs natively on iPad, iPhone, Windows and Android. On Mac it runs only as the iPad app on Apple Silicon, and there is no web version.

The universal iPhone and iPad app requires iOS or iPadOS 15.0 or later. It keeps the interface of the Android and Windows versions rather than following iPadOS conventions, which helps mixed-device bands and can feel foreign to longtime forScore users.

On Windows it needs Windows 10 version 1809 or later, or Windows 11, and has run natively on ARM64 since March 2026, though without face gestures there. The Microsoft Store build trails the others: 3.9.41 from May 2026, while iOS and Android are on 3.9.45.

On Mac, the App Store labels it "Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS", and it needs macOS 15 and an M1 chip or later. Android requires version 7.0 or later and is optimized for tablets of 7 inches and up.

## What do MobileSheets users report?

Ratings are strong where the app has the most users, and the complaints center on crashes and sync. As of October 2026, the paid app has 4.68 out of 5 from 5,414 ratings on Google Play, 4.55 from 65 on the US App Store and 4.5 from 188 on the Microsoft Store.

Of the 12 US App Store reviews posted since January 2025, 8 give four or five stars. The negative ones describe bugs, crashes, the app failing to start and cloud sync not working; version 3.9.44 (August 2026) fixed the app not loading on a small number of devices and iCloud sync failing.

The other theme is depth. The Android user guide runs to 204 pages, and one App Store reviewer found the app very hard to figure out. Long-requested features arrive slowly: MusicXML has been requested since at least 2016 and in-app recording since at least 2017, and both are still pending.

## Should you choose MobileSheets?

On Android or Windows, yes: it is the reader we recommend first there, for $15.99 once. On iPad, choose it over forScore if your band mixes platforms, you want PDFs and ChordPro charts in one library, or you control keyboards over MIDI.

Pick [forScore](/reviews/forscore/) instead if every device you own is Apple and you want the most iPad-native reader, with AirPods gestures and a Mac app. Pick [Newzik](/reviews/newzik/) if your orchestra or choir needs to distribute parts and shared markings, or if you want PDFs to play back. For chord-chart bands, [SongbookPro](/reviews/songbookpro/) is the lighter option, and our [forScore alternatives](/best/forscore-alternatives/) roundup lists more. Before you buy, load your eight hardest songs into the free trial and test them with your pedal.

## Frequently asked questions
